Office Cleaners
Although clearly recruited locally (always the wife of a railwayman serving at Ashchurch), the holder of the Office Cleaner post was appointed centrally. She appears in the central list of new appointments as well as in the Coaching Department list of station personnel; also in the censuses. The post was modestly paid at four shillings and sixpence at first, rising to five shillings a week in March 1873. In the following table the first date is that of taking up the appointment as shown in the Ashchurch staff lists, usually differing from the formal date of appointment.
