Miscellaneous

There are a number of people known to be railway employees at Ashchurch from non-rail sources, for example as residents in one of the railway cottages at the station there, but whose exact function is unknown.

William (John) Langford

William and Alice Elizabeth Langford were the occupants of one of the Ashchurch railway cottages , number 8, between 1923 and 1929 and were thus railway employees. Nothing more is yet known. Perhaps they were the William John and Alice Elizabeth who were at an address in Moseley, Birmingham, in 1939.

John Charles McMillan

John lived for three years in the 1930s in one of the railway cottages at Ashchurch station and must therefore have been a railway employee there. There is no information on his specific occupation.

No details have yet been found for John's early life. At the registration of his death his date of birth was shwn as 26th August 1904, but there is no record of this, nor of hid being registered in the 1911 census, in the records for England and Wales. The first that has been found is his marriage in Alcester, Worcestershire, in 1927. He is next seen in Lydney, Gloucestershire, with wife Gladys, in 1931 and 1933, and then in Ashchurch in 1937-39. The birth of a daughter Mary C was registered in Cheltenham, registration centre for Ashchurch, in 1938. The next possible continuity is the marriage of a Mary C McMillan in Birmingham in 1959 and the death of a John C Macnillan in the same district in 1991.
