THE MIDLAND RAILWAY ASSEMBLAGE TRAILS

The entranceway to The Assemblage from the second floor north landing of the Musuem of Making at Derby's Silk Mill A sign that reads as follows; Welcome to
the Assemblage Objects here are grouped by material: stone, ceramic, glass, metal, textile, organic, synthetic and wood. Local people, who helped us make the Museum of Making, thought this would help visitors find objects that could inspire their own making. This is not your average museum display. The Assemblage is a bit like a museum store, but is a space you can explore. It is laid out in a grid by number, letter and colour. Feel free to wander and wonder. If you want to find out more, visit our Work Stations to make your own Assembly Line trail or search for an object. At the Work Stations you can also find out how to access this information on your mobile device. The Assembly Line resource is constantly growing. If you have information about the collection to share we would love to hear about it, please talk to the team.

Everything in The Assemblage of the Museum of Making has a story to tell. Some objects perhaps have more to say than others and so we have developed these self-guided trails to help you discover more about some of what we consider to be the most interesting.

There are currently two trails; one intended to be a little more light hearted and may be more suited to family groups. The other is pitched more toward those who might be looking for something a little deeper. If we haven't covered your favourite object, do let us know and we will consider developing a third trail to include them.

The Assemblage is essentially a museum store, but is a space you can explore. Objects here are grouped by material: stone, ceramic, glass, metal, textile, organic, synthetic and wood. It is laid out in a grid by number, letter and colour. Our trails begin at the north end of the Silk Mill (in other words far end from which you entered the building), on the second floor. You will know you are in the right place when you see the entrance to Railways Revealed as well as the Assemblage ...as illustrated below.

Go through into the doorway and start the trail you prefer... Enjoy!
